Two Men Charged Following IED Discovery Near Louth Border

The Police Service of Northern Ireland's (PSNI) Terrorism Investigation Unit (TIU) has confirmed that two men have been charged following a cross-border probe.

These charges stem from the discovery of a suspected improvised explosive device (IED) found on 9 June 2024 in the Ravensdale area of County Louth, Republic of Ireland. Both men are scheduled to appear before Strabane Magistrates' Court today, Thursday, 16 October, via video link.

In line with usual procedure, the Public Prosecution Service will review all charges brought against the individuals.

Officer injured in hammer assault
A police officer has been injured after being struck with a hammer in Co Armagh at the weekend. The incident occurred after officers were called to the Thomas Street area of Portadown on Sunday after a Portuguese man reported damage to his car. When officers arrived they saw a man being assaulted in a separate incident nearby.

Lawyer considers client's 'overexposure'
The lawyer of a senior north Belfast loyalist has warned that he may report the Chief Constable, Sir Hugh Orde, and an unnamed Sunday newspaper editor to the Attorney General for over exposure of his client. Ihab Shoukri, from Alliance Road, was today remanded on continuing bail charged two counts of being a member of the UDA/UFF.

Man Arrested In Jean McConville Investigation
A 56-year-old man has been arrested over the abduction and murder of Jean McConville. The man was arrested in west Belfast on Wednesday morning. A mother of 10, Jean McConville was kidnapped from her flat in the Divis area of Belfast in December 1972 and shot by the IRA.
