South Belfast Assault Being Treated As A Hate Crime
The PSNI have issued an appeal for information and witnesses following an assault on a female in the Botanic area of South Belfast.
The incident occurred at around 9.30pm on Wednesday, 15 October. The woman, who is aged in her 20s, sustained an injury during the assault and attended hospital for treatment, but has since been discharged.
A racial remark was also made during the incident, and police are treating the assault as a hate crime.
Inspector Walker strongly condemned the behaviour, describing it as an unprovoked attack. Police are asking the public for information as the area was relatively busy at the time of the incident. The alleged attacker is described as a man aged between 30 and 40, of slim build, and wearing a grey tracksuit.
Anyone who witnessed the assault, or who saw a man matching this description, is asked to contact police on 101, quoting reference number 1746 15/10/25. In an emergency, always ring 999.
