Murder Investigation Following Death Of Man In Portavogie

Detectives from the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI)’s Major Investigation Team have launched a murder investigation following an incident in Portavogie, County Down.

Officers, along with the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service, attended an address in the New Harbour Road area of the village this morning, Monday, 3 November 2025, after a report was received just after 7.45am. A man, aged in his 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detective Inspector Hollie McCartan, from the Major Investigation Team, confirmed the developments:

"Sadly, a man, aged in his 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene. My thoughts are with the young man’s family and loved ones, who are left trying to come to terms with their unimaginable loss."

Following the incident, a 21-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody at this time.

Detective Inspector McCartan acknowledged the impact on the local community:

"We’re deeply aware this news will bring both shock and sadness to the close-knit community of Portavogie. Local people will see police officers in and around the area, with cordons still in place."

The PSNI is appealing for information and is particularly keen to hear from anyone who was in the New Harbour Road area of Portavogie between midday on Sunday, 2 November and 8am today, Monday, 3 November, who may have witnessed or heard anything untoward, or who may have captured dash cam footage.

Man Arrested In L'Derry
A 20-year-old man has been arrested in L'Derry. Officers from the PSNI's Terrorism Investigation unit carried out a search at a property in connection with an ongoing on Wednesday, 04 November. A number of items were seized for further examination. The man was taken to be questioned, however he has now been released.

Man arrested over Electoral Office fraud
A 58-year-old man from Co Tyrone has been arrested and charged following a police investigation into irregularities at an Electoral Office in the west of the province. The man was charged with 30 offences, 17 of which relate to theft and 13 of fake accounting. He will appear before a court in Omagh on November 11.
