Retailers Urged To Report Offences During Week Of Action
The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) has launched a week of action, beginning today, Monday, 10 November, targeting business crime across the country.
The PSNI is urging retailers and businesses to report all offences and incidents, including anti-social behaviour and theft, to help officers apprehend offenders and focus resources.
As part of the initiative, the public will see high visibility patrols across town and city centres. Officers will also be holding Safer Business Action Days (SaBA) to deliver focused operations that include a range of crime prevention activities and the targeted intervention of prolific offenders.
Superintendent Allister Hagan acknowledged the issue of under-reporting: "We are aware that our business community do not always contact police when dealing with this type of offence, but through increased engagement and crime prevention initiatives; we hope this will provide reassurance that our officers are there to help."
He stressed that information is vital for apprehending offenders and reducing crime and anti-social behaviour. The PSNI's Neighbourhood policing officers aim to engage closely with retailers to tailor their approach.
Retail NI Chief Executive, Glyn Roberts, expressed support for the initiative: "‘Retail NI is pleased to support this action week and look forward to seeing increased engagement with our PSNI colleagues. This is a good example of the partnership we have with the PSNI in tackling crime and ensuring our members, their staff and shoppers stay safe."
