PSNI Shuts Down Large-Scale Cannabis Cultivation Operation
A man in his twenties has been arrested in connection with a substantial seizure of suspected illegal drugs in counties Down and Londonderry.
Organised Crime Branch detectives, with assistance from the Operational Support Department, conducted property searches in Bangor and Magherafelt, resulting in the discovery of suspected cannabis plants with an estimated street value of £320,000.
The man was arrested in the Magherafelt area on suspicion of cultivating cannabis and dishonestly extracting electricity. Detective Inspector Kelly from the PSNI's Organised Crime Branch stressed that drug suppliers are motivated only by money and have little regard for the people impacted by their criminality. The police service confirmed it is continually conducting investigations to prevent and detect drug-related activity.
The PSNI also issued a direct appeal to property owners who rent out homes to carry out regular checks to deter criminals from using their properties for such activities, urging them to report any suspicions to police. Members of the public with information about the use or supply of illegal drugs are asked to contact police on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
