Two Viable Pipe-Bombs Found After Overnight Security Alert in L'Derry
Police in L'Derry have confirmed that two suspect devices discovered during an overnight security alert were viable pipe-bombs.
A public safety operation was implemented in the Glenabbey Close and Beraghvale area of Skeoge after a report was made to police shortly after 12:30 am this morning, 13 November.
The alert required close to two dozen homes to be evacuated, forcing families and children to leave their residences during the early hours of the morning. The incident also caused significant disruption for local retailers and those travelling to work and school this morning. Following attendance by Ammunition Technical Officers (ATO), the devices—both described as pipe-bombs—were made safe and removed from the scene for further forensic examination. The security cordon has since been collapsed, and residents are able to return to their homes.
Chief Inspector Graeme Craig condemned the actions, stating that the devices were viable and it was "fortunate they did not detonate before they were discovered." He stressed that those responsible have "absolutely no regard for the local community," calling the act "reprehensible."
Police maintained a presence in the area throughout the day to conduct further enquiries and appealed to anyone with information, or who witnessed anything suspicious in the last 24 hours, to contact them on 101, quoting reference 32 of 13/11/25.
