Roads Service issue Bank Holiday Road closure warning
The Roads Service has issued travel advice to motorists planning to use the Upper Newtownards Road in east Belfast this coming Bank Holiday weekend.
It follows the start of major road works currently underway on the Upper Newtownards Road, between Thornhill Drive and Rosepark.
Roads Service planned to carry out essential surfacing last weekend but had to postpone the works because of bad weather. The works have now been rescheduled for this weekend, 29 and 30 August, which will see the Upper Newtownards Road closed so that the final carriageway surfacing can be completed.
The details of the road closure are as follows: Upper Newtownards Road, from Knock Road to Rosepark, will be closed to country bound traffic from 2am on Sunday, 29 August to 6am on Monday, 30 August 2004. A diversion route via Hawthornden Way, Belmont Road, Ballymiscaw Road, Whinney Hill, Dunlady Road and Upper Newtownards Road will be available to motorists.
Advance information signs are also in place at each end of the scheme to advise the travelling public.
