Belfast Launches Full Programme Of Christmas Events

Following the official Christmas lights switch-on event, Belfast City Council is inviting residents and visitors to enjoy a wide-ranging programme of free, family-friendly events throughout the festive season.

The line-up is centred around the return of the Winter's Den at 2 Royal Avenue, which has been transformed into a winter wonderland.

The Winter's Den will host a variety of activities, including crafting workshops, carol singing and choir performances, and silent discos. Key attractions include the return of the Belfast Potters' Market, sustainable gift-wrapping workshops, and a New Year's Eve céilí. Even family pets can get involved with the popular Crufty Christmas Fashion Show on Sunday, 7 December 2025, showcasing seasonal canine outfits. The venue is also home to Santa's Post Office, which will be collecting letters to the North Pole until Sunday, 21 December 2025.

Beyond the Den, the city centre will feature pop-up performances and walkabout acts, including a special fire and light show in the Cathedral Quarter on Friday, 21 November 2025, and again on Friday, 5 December 2025. Other highlights include vintage swing dancing at Grand Central Station and the family theatre show Ginger and Bread vs The Brussels Sprouts at 2 Royal Avenue.

Lord Mayor of Belfast, Councillor Tracy Kelly, said: "The countdown to Christmas in Belfast has officially started, and we're inviting everyone to get involved, with a huge line-up of seasonal activities for all ages to enjoy."

She added that the Winter's Den is designed to be welcoming and cosy, offering activities like crafting Christmas decorations, exploring festive traditions from around the world, or simply taking a break with a festive film or a story from Mrs Claus.

The Lord Mayor also noted that the popular Belfast Christmas Market at City Hall continues to attract visitors, and to support those enjoying nights out, Translink's night bus services will commence from Friday, 28 November 2025, with part-funding from the Council. The Council has also extended its Christmas lighting further into Ann Street, Arthur Street, Bank Square, and Bridge Street this year. Furthermore, Safer Neighbourhood Officers will increase their patrols from the end of November to support the later opening hours of shops and maintain a welcoming atmosphere.
