PSNI Issues Cold Weather Driving Warning

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) has issued a warning to all road users, advising them to take extra care when travelling, especially on untreated roads, due to the cold weather impacting driving conditions across the country.

Drivers are being asked to leave extra time for their journey and ensure they maintain a safe distance between their vehicle and the car in front.

The PSNI emphasised the "Fatal Five" dangers and the potentially life-changing consequences they carry, urging everyone to adhere to these rules every single time they get behind the wheel.

For drivers, a primary focus is on slowing down and staying within the speed limits, with police stressing that this action alone can help save lives.

The "Fatal Five" factors that contribute to the most serious and fatal collisions are:

• Don't drink or take drugs and drive

• Slow down (and stick to the speed limits)

• Don't be careless

• Always wear your seat belt

• Never use your mobile phone while driving.

The police stated that the impact of serious and fatal collisions is "colossal," changing lives in an instant, and reminded the public that driving is a huge responsibility where everyone plays a part in keeping the roads safe.
