UUP MLA Criticises Belfast City Council Decision to Fly Palestinian Flag
UUP MLA Andy Allen has criticised the decision by Belfast City Council to vote in favour of flying the Palestinian flag over City Hall, calling the move "divisive symbolism" and "stunt politics." Mr Allen argued that the council should focus on delivering essential local services rather than engaging in global politics. He stated that while the humanitarian suffering must be acknowledged, flying the flag does not bring practical relief and risks turning international tragedy into "political theatre" that could widen divisions at home.
He asserted that the majority of people in Belfast did not ask for the flag to be flown and that his party believes in "practical politics" over symbolic acts.
Lord Mayor Signs White Ribbon Pledge Against Violence On Behalf Of Belfast City Council
Lord Mayor of Belfast, Councillor Tracy Kelly, has officially signed the White Ribbon Pledge at City Hall on behalf of Belfast City Council.

Belfast currently holds accreditation as a 'Safe City' for its ongoing partnership work to support domestic violence victims and has achieved platinum status in the Onus’ workplace charter on domestic violence.
