Search is on for ‘Enterprising Britain’ winner

The search is on to find the best Northern Ireland council to compete for the ‘Enterprising Britain’ Award – a competition set up by Chancellor Gordon Brown to find the UK city, town or place of Enterprise 2005.

Each UK region will select a winner who will then go forward to compete at a national level during Enterprise Week, to be held on the 15-21st November.

The competition has been designed to select the UK city, region or place which can demonstrate that it has effected a ‘step change’ in its approach towards supporting and promoting enterprise over the last three years.

Co-ordinated at a regional level by Invest NI, the competition is open to all local councils across the region, with an entry deadline of the 30th September.

Chief Executive of Invest NI, Leslie Morrison said: “We have made progress in the last two years to improve the volume and quality of new businesses across Northern Ireland but the challenge remains to build a culture that recognises and values enterprise.

"This competition will highlight what our district councils are doing to meet this challenge and how they are promoting enterprise at a local level.”

The overall winner will be announced during the Enterprise Conference to be held in London in February 2005.
