New Belfast Health and Social Care Trust Board Appointee Announced

Health Minister Mike Nesbitt has announced the appointment of Professor Ian Bruce to the board of the Belfast Health and Social Care Trust (BHSCT).

Professor Bruce joins the board as a Non-Executive Director, specifically serving as the representative for Queen’s University Belfast. His tenure officially began on 1 January 2026 and is scheduled to run until 31 December 2029.

The BHSCT is one of the five regional Health and Social Care Trusts formed in 2006. As a legal entity, the Trust is tasked with providing effective and responsive health and social care services. The governing board oversees these operations and is comprised of a Non-Executive Chair, seven Non-Executive Directors, and five Executive Directors, including the Chief Executive.

As part of the role, which requires a time commitment of one day per week, the position attracts an annual remuneration of £9,327.

The appointment was carried out in strict accordance with the Code of Practice set by the Commissioner for Public Appointments for Northern Ireland.

Nine Residential Care Homes To Close
The Northern Health and Social Care Trust is set to close all nine of its residential care homes starting in November this year, according to Unison. Two homes, Pinewood in Ballymena and Westlands in Cookstown are to close in November, followed by Rathmoyle in Moyle in January 2014.
