NIFRS Opens Applications For Regional Control Centre Firefighters

Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) has opened recruitment for Firefighter Control roles at its Regional Control Centre in Lisburn, offering candidates the chance to support lifesaving operations at the heart of the organisation.

Based in the control room, Firefighter Control personnel are the first point of contact for people in emergency situations. They answer and process 999 calls, give vital fire survival guidance, and coordinate the mobilisation of Fire Appliances and resources to a wide range of incidents across Northern Ireland.

The role is fast-paced, challenging and rewarding. Every call is different and demands composure under pressure, quick decision-making and strong communication skills. Control room teams play a crucial part in public safety, supporting Firefighters on the ground and assisting the public during emergencies.

Successful applicants will complete a minimum 10-week training programme, with clear pathways for career progression into roles including Crew Commander, Watch Commander and Station Commander Control.

NIFRS describes this as a unique opportunity to make a daily difference by being the reassuring voice on the line when people need help most.

Applications can be submitted online at: nifrs.getgotjobs.co.uk/. The closing date is Monday 26 January 2026 at 12pm.
