£600,000 Resurfacing Project Announced For Hillhead Road, Castledawson
Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins has announced a £600,000 carriageway resurfacing project for Hillhead Road, Castledawson, scheduled to commence on Monday 2 February 2026.
The scheme will cover a 3.5-kilometre stretch of the road, extending from No.1 Harmony Hill to the junction with the A54 Oldtown Road. The investment is part of the Department for Infrastructure's (DfI) ongoing commitment to enhancing the safety and structural integrity of the rural road network.
Highlighting the importance of the work, Minister Kimmins said: "This is a substantial investment for the Castledawson area which will deliver significant benefits for residents and road users. The investment demonstrates my commitment to investing in and improving our road network, which is vital for connecting our businesses and communities." To facilitate the works safely, a full road closure will be in effect between the Lurganagoose Road (Knockloughrim) and Oldtown Road junctions.
• Dates: Monday 2 February to Friday 13 March 2026.
• Hours: Daily from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm.
• Diversion Route: Signed diversions will be in place via Lurganagoose Road, A6 Glenshane Road, A54 Magherafelt Road, Main Street, and Moyola Road.
While the Department has planned the works to minimise disruption and will accommodate local access where possible, motorists are advised to expect delays and allow extra time for their journeys.
Subject to favourable weather conditions, the project is expected to be substantially complete by Friday 13 March 2026. Real-time updates and further information on the scheme can be found at trafficwatchni.com.
