Elderly Woman Dies Following Collision In Carryduff

The PSNI has confirmed the death of a woman in her eighties following a road traffic collision in Carryduff on Saturday, 31st January.

The incident, which involved a car and a pedestrian, occurred in the Saintfield Road area. Emergency services were alerted to the scene during the early evening.

Chief Inspector Simpson, from the Collision Investigation Unit, stated: "Police received a report at around 6.25pm on Saturday afternoon that a female pedestrian had been hit by a car in the Saintfield Road area."

He continued: "Officers, along with colleagues from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service attended the scene. The woman was taken on to hospital, where she sadly passed away a short time later."

Following the collision, the Saintfield Road was closed to traffic in both directions between the Comber Road junction and the Carryduff Roundabout. The thoroughfare has since been reopened to the public.

An investigation into the circumstances of the crash is currently underway. Authorities are urging anyone who may have been in the area at the time to come forward with information.

"Our enquiries are continuing and we would appeal to anyone who witnessed the collision, or who may have digital footage which could assist with our investigation, to contact the Collision Investigation Unit on 101, quoting reference number 1164 of 31/01/26," Chief Inspector Simpson added.
