Arrest Made Following Armed Robbery Attempt in West Belfast
A 35-year-old man has been taken into police custody following an attempted armed robbery at a fast food outlet in west Belfast during the early hours of Monday, 2nd February.
The incident occurred at approximately midnight when two masked individuals entered a business on the Falls Road. One of the men, who was armed with a knife, moved behind the service counter and threatened a staff member.
Detective Sergeant Stevenson explained: "Two masked men – one of whom was armed with a knife – entered a fast food business on the Falls Road at around midnight. The armed man made his way behind the service counter and threatened a member of staff. When the staff member fought back, it's alleged that the man attempted to stab them but, fortunately, missed. They managed to get him out of the premises." Shortly after the report, officers located a man in the vicinity who matched the description of one of the suspects. He was arrested on suspicion of robbery and possession of an offensive weapon with intent and remains in custody for questioning.
While the member of staff was not physically injured during the confrontation, police noted they were left shaken by the ordeal. Detectives are now focused on identifying and locating the second suspect involved.
"Our enquiries are ongoing and we are actively seeking the second suspect," added Detective Sergeant Stevenson. "We are keen to speak to anyone who may have been in the area at this time and noticed any suspicious activity, particularly anyone who may have dashcam footage. The number to call is 101, quoting reference number 2 of 02/02/26."
