Major Randalstown Road Improvement Project Announced

Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins has confirmed the start of a £380,000 investment aimed at upgrading the carriageway and footways on the B93 Ahoghill Road in Randalstown. The scheme, which is currently underway, will cover a 0.73-kilometre stretch from house number 69 to the Portglenone Road junction.

The project is designed to enhance the local transport network and improve safety for both pedestrians and motorists. Speaking on the investment, Minister Kimmins stated:

"This is a substantial investment for the Randalstown area which will deliver significant benefits for residents and road users. The investment demonstrates my commitment to investing in and improving our road network, which is vital for connecting our businesses and communities. Work is expected to be substantially completed by Friday 3 April 2026. I would like to thank residents, local businesses and commuters for their patience while this essential infrastructure work is carried out."

To allow the works to proceed safely, a series of traffic restrictions have been scheduled:

• Until Friday 13 March: Weekday lane closures will be in effect from 8.00 am to 6.00 pm, managed by traffic signals.

• Monday 16 March to Friday 3 April: Full daytime road closures will be implemented.

• Evenings and Weekends: The road will remain open to all traffic during these periods.

A signed diversion will be in place for the duration of the works. Motorists travelling toward Ballymena or Randalstown will be redirected via the B52 Portglenone Road and the B18 Whitesides Road.

While the Department for Infrastructure has planned the works to limit disruption—including making provisions for local residents, Translink bus routes, and school services—commuters are warned to expect delays. Drivers are encouraged to plan for extra travel time and must adhere to all temporary traffic signs.

The project is currently on track for substantial completion by 3 April 2026, though this timeline remains subject to favourable weather conditions.
