Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins has announced four road improvement and resurfacing schemes across Northern Ireland worth more than £1.1 million in total.

The projects, located in Belfast, Armoy, Newtownabbey and Madden, are either underway or due to begin in February and April, with traffic management measures including road closures and diversions planned during construction.

In Belfast, a £135,000 carriageway resurfacing scheme at the A512 Old Golf Course Road Roundabout will involve full-width resurfacing of the junction. Works are scheduled to take place over two consecutive weekends in February, with full closures of the roundabout, Old Golf Course Road and Creighton Road required to facilitate the improvements.

A £390,000 resurfacing project on the A44 Drones Road near Armoy will cover approximately 1.2 kilometres of carriageway from around one kilometre north of the Moyaver Road junction towards Armoy village. The works are being delivered in two phases between 16 and 28 February, with daytime road closures in place during construction. Meanwhile, in Newtownabbey, a £219,000 improvement scheme on Carntall Road will extend around 0.65 kilometres from its junction with Irish Hill Road. The project is currently underway and is expected to be substantially completed by 27 February, with weekday daytime closures required.

In County Armagh, a separate £375,000 resurfacing scheme will cover approximately 3.3 kilometres of the C196 Farnaloy Road in Madden. Work is scheduled to begin on 16 February and continue until 24 April, subject to weather conditions, with weekday daytime road closures planned between 9.15am and 6.00pm.

Announcing the schemes, Minister Kimmins said the investments would deliver significant benefits for residents and road users and demonstrate her commitment to improving Northern Ireland’s road network, which she described as vital for connecting businesses and communities.

The Department for Infrastructure said traffic management arrangements have been planned to minimise disruption where possible, but motorists should expect some delays and allow additional time when travelling near the works. All schemes remain subject to favourable weather conditions.
