Belfast is set to be the centre of celebrations this March as the city hosts a massive 17-day programme to mark St Patrick's Day. From traditional music festivals and athletic races to the cornerstone annual parade, the schedule offers a diverse range of activities for residents and visitors alike.

The main event, the St Patrick's Day Parade, will take place on Tuesday 17 March, starting from City Hall at 1:30pm. This year's theme focuses on the legends of St Patrick and the city's rich diversity. Spectators can expect a cavalcade of colourful costumes, community groups, and theatrical performances winding through Chichester Street, Victoria Street, and High Street before returning to the city centre.

Festival Highlights & Traditional Music

• Belfast TradFest (13–17 March): Expanding to five days, the festival features world-class talent including Dougie MacLean, Andy Irvine, and The Bow Brothers.

• Festival Village (17 March): Following the parade, the Cathedral Quarter will transform into a hub of activity (1pm–5pm) with piping competitions, céilí dancing, and a family-friendly "trad picnic."

• Féile an Phobail (10–17 March): Hosting the popular Féile Trad Trail, which includes over 100 sessions across various Belfast venues. • St George's Market (14–15 March): A weekend of live traditional music and local trader offers.

The celebrations also place a strong emphasis on the Irish language. Seachtain na Gaeilge le Energia runs throughout the entire festival (1–17 March), offering events for both fluent speakers and beginners.

A major highlight is Spraoi Cois Lao on Saturday 7 March (1pm–4pm) at Custom House Square. As the largest Irish language family fun day in the city, it features Zumba, a céilí mór, and workshops, all delivered through the medium of Irish.

Early birds on St Patrick's Day can participate in or cheer on the SPAR Craic 10K, which departs from City Hall at 9am. The race has become a staple of the holiday morning, bringing thousands of runners through the city streets.
