MLA Condemns 'Abhorrent' Nazi Graffiti in West Belfast
Alliance MLA Nuala McAllister has spoken out against those responsible for scrawling a swastika and a hateful anti-immigrant message in West Belfast.
The graffiti was discovered on a gate located on the Ballygomartin Road. Following intervention from the Alliance Party, Belfast City Council was contacted, and the markings are currently in the process of being removed.
Ms McAllister described the incident as an "abhorrent act" and insisted that such displays of hate do not reflect the character of the city. "This is an absolutely abhorrent act. Belfast is a welcoming city and these hateful scrawls aren't representative of the vast majority of people's views in our city," she said.
"I condemn those behind this and would encourage all political representatives to do the same. When it comes to the poison of racism, we must all stand united against it. Everyone deserves to feel safe and respected in their community."
The North Belfast MLA called for unity against racial prejudice and urged anyone with information regarding the incident to assist the authorities.
"I'd encourage anyone who has any information that may be helpful to police in bringing those responsible to justice to please contact the PSNI, or report it anonymously via Crimestoppers."
