Lord Mayor Names South Belfast Social Enterprise as Civic Charity

The Lord Mayor of Belfast, Councillor Tracy Kelly, has officially named Tre-Eco as one of her chosen charities for the remainder of her 2025/2026 term.

The selection shines a spotlight on the South Belfast social enterprise's dual mission of environmental regeneration and social empowerment.

Tre-Eco operates as a grassroots hub designed to support young volunteers by providing practical training in trades such as building work, plastering, and power washing. By building confidence and technical proficiency, the organisation aims to make young people more attractive to future employers in emerging job markets.

The partnership aligns with the Lord Mayor's core civic priority of ensuring "no-one is left behind" in Belfast's economic growth.

During a visit to the enterprise today, Councillor Kelly highlighted her personal connection to the area and the vital role such organisations play in the local fabric.

"This amazing facility is part of the fabric of this close-knit community in South Belfast and where I have lived all my life. Having worked at Belfast South Community Resources previously, I understand the ethos of places like Tre-Eco and the incredible work that leaders Graham and Sarah provide to these young people.

"Tre-Eco is more than a social enterprise. It is a safe haven – creating a sustainable environment by engaging young people, tackling local dereliction and providing future learning and development qualifications."

As an official civic charity, Tre-Eco will benefit from increased visibility and fundraising opportunities throughout the city. This support will further their mission of community-led regeneration and environmental training.

Each year, the Lord Mayor, Deputy Lord Mayor, and High Sheriff select specific charities to champion during their time in office. This tradition provides a significant platform for local organisations to reach new donors and partners across the city's business and community sectors.

The Lord Mayor concluded: "My goal this year is to connect more young people to the opportunities being created in our city, and Tre-Eco is a perfect example of a social enterprise making that happen at a grassroots level."
