Consultation Launched On New Race Relations Framework
The First Minister and deputy First Minister have today initiated a 12-week public consultation process regarding the draft Framework for Race Relations and its accompanying delivery plan.
The proposed Framework outlines a strategic roadmap for the advancement of racial equality after 2025. This new approach builds upon the foundations laid by the Racial Equality Strategy 2015–2025 and has been developed following extensive engagement with various stakeholders. It aims to address modern societal inequalities through an inclusive and evidence-based methodology. First Minister Michelle O’Neill commented: “We want to build a society where everyone feels respected and valued and our commitment to equality, fairness and justice is at the heart of that.
“This Framework will help guide our work in the years ahead, with a shared vision of a society where diversity is valued and where everyone can live free from discrimination.”
Deputy First Minister Emma Little-Pengelly stated: “We want everyone in Northern Ireland, regardless of race or ethnicity, to thrive, contribute meaningfully, and feel a genuine sense of belonging. And this draft Framework represents a renewed and strategic effort to make that a reality.
“Together, we can create a future where everyone feels safe, valued, and empowered to reach their full potential.”
The consultation provides an opportunity for the public to help shape the final version of the strategy, ensuring it reflects the needs of a diverse society.
