The highly anticipated Bedford Hotel in Belfast city centre is set to open its doors a month earlier than originally scheduled. Following an intensive final construction phase, the official launch of the multi-million-pound project has been confirmed for Wednesday, 8 April 2026.

The development has seen the comprehensive restoration of the Grade B1 listed Scottish Mutual Building. This 1904 Scottish Baronial-style landmark has undergone round-the-clock work to bring the vacant heritage site back into use. As part of the sensitive preservation process, 32 original vault doors have been maintained throughout the 82-bedroom property.

While the timeline has been accelerated from the initial May target, the hotel leadership has stressed that quality remains the priority. The building is currently undergoing rigorous safety and luxury standard checks before the first guests arrive. Backed by RFM Hotels, the investment is expected to create over 100 jobs for the city. The hotel will feature a destination restaurant named The Nineteen Hundred, as well as a café and bar. These will be overseen by Executive Head Chef Noel McMeel, formerly of Lough Erne Resort, who will focus on local produce and mentoring new hospitality talent.
