Belfast's New Bedford Hotel To Open On 08 April
The highly anticipated Bedford Hotel in Belfast city centre is set to open its doors a month earlier than originally scheduled. Following an intensive final construction phase, the official launch of the multi-million-pound project has been confirmed for Wednesday, 8 April 2026.
The development has seen the comprehensive restoration of the Grade B1 listed Scottish Mutual Building. This 1904 Scottish Baronial-style landmark has undergone round-the-clock work to bring the vacant heritage site back into use. As part of the sensitive preservation process, 32 original vault doors have been maintained throughout the 82-bedroom property.
While the timeline has been accelerated from the initial May target, the hotel leadership has stressed that quality remains the priority. The building is currently undergoing rigorous safety and luxury standard checks before the first guests arrive. Backed by RFM Hotels, the investment is expected to create over 100 jobs for the city. Gerry Lennon, CEO of Visit Belfast, commented: "The opening of The Bedford Hotel is a fantastic addition to Belfast's tourism offering and a strong vote of confidence in the city's growing appeal as a destination. By sensitively restoring one of our most treasured buildings, this project not only celebrates Belfast's heritage but also strengthens our ability to welcome the increasing number of visitors choosing the city. High-quality investments like this play an important role in showcasing Belfast on the global stage and sustaining the momentum of our visitor economy."
The hotel will feature a destination restaurant named The Nineteen Hundred, as well as a café and bar. These will be overseen by Executive Head Chef Noel McMeel, formerly of Lough Erne Resort, who will focus on local produce and mentoring new hospitality talent.
Mike Gatt, General Manager of The Bedford Hotel, said: "Our teams and contractors have been working night and day to reach this point sooner than anticipated. We are now entering a phase of meticulous preparation and rigorous testing to ensure that every detail – from the service standards to the room finishes – is to the highest of standards. Hospitality plays a vital role in Northern Ireland's economy, and we are eager to welcome our first guests to this rejuvenated landmark."
Managing Director Ciaran O'Neill added: "Opening The Bedford is a clear statement of resilience. This is not simply about launching a hotel – it is about creating sustainable employment, supporting local supply chains, and contributing to the ongoing vibrancy of the city. We can't wait to welcome our first customers through the doors in a few short weeks."
Bookings are now being accepted for stays starting from 8 April 2026 via the hotel's website.
