Health Minister Commends Frontline Teams at Craigavon Area Hospital

h Minister Mike Nesbitt has conducted a visit to Craigavon Area Hospital to observe the essential work being carried out by frontline teams across the Trust. During his time on-site, the Minister engaged with staff from several departments, including the Maternity Unit, Trauma and Orthopaedics, and the Healthcare Science team.

Welcomed by Trust Chair Eileen Mullan, Mr Nesbitt began his tour in the Trauma and Orthopaedics department. Discussions focused on current initiatives designed to enhance patient flow and lower waiting times. The Minister noted that recent regional investments aimed at expanding trauma services are being effectively utilised by the Trust to address elective and emergency backlogs.

In the Maternity Unit, the Minister was briefed on the Emerald Continuity of Midwifery Care model. This initiative is designed to provide expectant mothers with consistent and personalised support throughout the duration of their pregnancy.

"Today was a great opportunity to meet several teams working within Craigavon Area Hospital and to learn more about the work they're doing to ensure better outcomes for patients. I was delighted to see how recent investment aimed at expanding trauma services across the region is being used by the Trust to help improve waiting times."

He continued: "I also want to pay tribute to the fantastic work carried out by staff in the maternity services, some of whom I had the opportunity to meet today, and also to express my gratitude to the staff working within the Healthcare Science field for the improvements to diagnostic testing and the service developments they have made."

The visit concluded with a presentation from the Healthcare Science team, who highlighted the critical role their diagnostic and support services play in clinical decision-making and patient pathways.

Deputy Chief Executive Colm McCafferty added: "Today's visit provided a valuable opportunity to showcase the dedication and expertise of our staff across a range of critical services."
