Giant Adventures Return To Mourne Gullion Strangford For 2026
The Giant Adventures series will return in 2026 with three immersive tourism events across Mourne Gullion Strangford, showcasing the area's mythology, music, food and spectacular scenery for residents and visitors alike.
The programme opens with Wake the Giant in Warrenpoint on Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 August, continues with Eats and Beats in Newcastle, Co Down, on Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 September, and concludes with Footsteps in the Forest at Slieve Gullion Forest Park from Wednesday 21 to Tuesday 27 October.
Launching the series, Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Philip Campbell, said, " The Giant Adventures series is a celebration of everything that makes Mourne Gullion Strangford such a special place to visit and to call home. As more people choose to holiday closer to home, experiences like these offer the perfect opportunity to reconnect with our landscapes, our stories and our communities.
He added: "From the mountains to the coast, each event invites visitors to slow down, explore more deeply and enjoy authentic, high-quality experiences right on their doorstep.
He said the Council will deliver each event in line with the Geopark Code of Practice, supporting local businesses, engaging communities and safeguarding the natural environment that defines the region.
"We warmly invite everyone to be part of the Giant Adventures in 2026 and discover the magic, creativity and sense of belonging that define our destination." The season begins with Wake the Giant in Warrenpoint, where the legend of Fionn mac Cumhaill takes centre stage as the giant spirit of the town reawakens. New for 2026, The Giant's Trail will turn the town into a walkable, story-led experience, with giant-themed installations and interactive moments that fuse folklore, culture and performance.
With family-friendly activities, sustainable 'green' crafts, food and a bustling festival vibe, Wake the Giant offers a lively summer celebration at the heart of Mourne Gullion Strangford.
Next up, the popular Eats and Beats festival returns to Newcastle on 5–6 September. Set against the Mourne Mountains, two stages will host an eclectic mix of local and international artists while visitors savour the region's best produce, enjoy live cookery demonstrations and browse artisan stalls—from fresh coastal fare to hearty, mountain-inspired dishes.
As autumn nights draw in, Slieve Gullion Forest Park will transform for Footsteps in the Forest (21–27 October). Expect eerie encounters, atmospheric storytelling and otherworldly theatre that weave ancient Samhain traditions through one of Ireland's most mythical landscapes—an extended Halloween experience for all ages.
With three standout events spanning summer and autumn 2026, now is the time to mark the dates and plan your Giant Adventure in Mourne Gullion Strangford.
