Police Ombudsman Discusses Misconduct Report with Policing Board Committee
Officials from the Police Ombudsman's Office met with the Policing Board's Performance Committee last week to examine the findings of a recent report into police officers abusing their positions for sexual purposes (APSP).
The meeting, attended by Chief Executive Hugh Hume and senior Ombudsman staff, provided a platform to present the report's conclusions and address questions from committee members. The discussion also explored potential future actions required to establish a comprehensive, system-wide response to the issues identified in the report.
During the briefing, representatives revealed that there are currently 34 open APSP cases at various stages of investigation. This figure includes ongoing cases highlighted in the original report as well as new allegations received since 1 January 2025.

Man Arrested Following Early Morning Stabbing in Omagh
A 44-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a stabbing incident in Omagh during the early hours of Sunday, 19th April. The Police Service of Northern Ireland received a report at approximately 12.25am stating that a man had been stabbed in the lower abdomen in the Kevlin Road area.
