Police Name Victim of Fatal Collision in Kilkeel
The Police Service of Northern Ireland has released the identity of the woman who lost her life following a road traffic collision in Kilkeel on the evening of Monday, 20 April.
The victim has been identified as Aoife Tinnelly, aged 24, who was from the local Kilkeel area.
Providing details on the incident, Detective Inspector Stewart from the PSNI's Collision Investigation Unit stated: "Shortly before 6.30pm, we received a report of a collision involving a white Audi A1 and blue Mercedes Benz on the Newry Road.
"Officers alongside colleagues from other emergency services attended, however very sadly Aoife was pronounced deceased at the scene. "Two other people were taken to hospital for treatment for their injuries."
While the Newry Road was shut for a duration to allow for an investigation at the scene, the route has since been fully reopened to traffic.
The police investigation into the circumstances of the crash remains ongoing. Authorities are requesting that anyone who may have seen the collision, or those with relevant CCTV or dash-cam footage, come forward.
"Our enquiries are continuing, and we would appeal to anyone who witnessed the collision, or to anyone who may have CCTV, dash-cam or other footage that could assist with our investigation, to contact the Collision Investigation Unit on 101, quoting reference number 1288 20/04/26," added Detective Inspector Stewart.
