Traffic Disruption Expected in South Belfast for Irish Cup Final

Police are advising motorists and residents in South Belfast to anticipate significant traffic disruption on Saturday 2nd May due to the Irish Cup Final. The match is scheduled to kick off at 2.30pm at the National Stadium, with a capacity crowd of more than 12,000 supporters expected to attend.

The event coincides with a busy bank holiday weekend, and congestion is anticipated on the M1, Donegall Road, and the Boucher Road area both before and after the fixture.

South Belfast Area Commander Chief Inspector Mark Conway said: "Supporters should be considerate while transiting through residential streets and commercial areas convenient to the stadium and those driving to the match should park with consideration for local residents and businesses. The Boucher Road is a thriving commercial area and will be busy with members of the public frequenting the area."

Chief Inspector Conway urged both supporters and shoppers to plan their journeys in advance to account for likely delays. He also reminded those attending the match of local regulations regarding alcohol consumption in the vicinity of the ground.

"The areas around the National Stadium are 'No Street Drinking' zones under Belfast City Council by-laws and these by-laws should be complied with at all times. We hope that the match is enjoyed by all and would remind those attending to behave in a manner befitting the reputation of their clubs."

Motorists are encouraged to leave sufficient travel time and to ensure their parking does not obstruct access for local residents or the emergency services.
