Major Investment In L'Derry Road Improvement Works

A fresh investment in Derry's road infrastructure will see a key stretch of Seymour Gardens undergo significant resurfacing. The project focuses on a 320-metre section of the road, starting from the Sperrin Park junction and extending through to the Kinsale Park junction.

The scheme involves stripping back the old road surface and replacing it with new, durable asphalt. Minister Kimmins highlighted the importance of the project for the local community, noting that the work is designed to strengthen the road network and provide a much smoother driving surface for residents and commuters alike.

Minister Kimmins stated: "This is a substantial investment for the City of Derry which will deliver significant benefits for residents and road users. The investment demonstrates my commitment to improving our road network. This work will greatly improve the strength and surface quality of this section of the road network to the benefit of local residents."

To allow the engineering teams to work safely, a series of road and lane closures will be put in place. While access for local residents will be maintained where possible, the Department for Infrastructure warns that some delays are likely.

Drivers are being asked to plan ahead, allow extra time for their journeys, and pay close attention to temporary traffic signs to ensure the safety of both road users and construction workers.

The project is currently on track to be finished by 19 June 2026, provided that weather conditions remain suitable for asphalt laying. The Department has committed to providing further updates if the schedule changes.
