Lisburn Security Alert Ends After Device Declared An Elaborate Hoax

A security alert in the Hillview Avenue area of Lisburn has concluded after a suspicious object was declared an elaborate hoax. The operation, which began on the evening of Wednesday 6 May, saw specialist officers attend the scene to ensure public safety.

Local policing Inspector Roberts confirmed that the alarm was raised at approximately 6.50pm on Wednesday after a suspected explosive device was discovered at the front of a residential property. As a precaution, several residents were evacuated from their homes, with local facilities opened to provide temporary accommodation.

Ammunition Technical Officers (ATO) attended and examined the item. A controlled explosion was carried out before the device was determined to be a hoax. All cordons have since been removed, and residents have been permitted to return to their properties.

Inspector Roberts stated: "We appreciate the inconvenience caused to residents when they were out of their homes, and we thank them for their patience and co-operation as this public safety operation was conducted."

Police enquiries into the incident are currently ongoing. Authorities are appealing to anyone with information that may assist the investigation to contact 101, quoting reference number 1483 06/05/26.
