AND Launches Freshen Up Grant For Shopfront Makeovers
Ards and North Down Borough Council has introduced the Freshen Up Grant, a key element of its Supporting Thriving High Streets Programme, to improve the appearance of shopfronts across priority town and city centre locations.
Funded by the Department for Communities and supported by the Council, the grant will help eligible businesses undertake painting and power-washing works ahead of the summer season, aiming to create more attractive streetscapes, boost footfall and strengthen local pride in place.
The initiative is open to any business or building owner operating from a commercial property within the designated town or city centre boundaries and currently paying commercial rates. The Mayor of Ards and North Down, Councillor Gillian McCollum, said: "This grant is a fantastic opportunity for local businesses to enhance the appearance of their premises and contribute to the overall vibrancy of our city and town centres. By working together, we can create more welcoming and attractive spaces that encourage residents and visitors to spend time locally, supporting our high streets and boosting the local economy."
The Freshen Up Grant aligns with the Council's ongoing commitment to create vibrant, welcoming and economically resilient high streets, making the Borough an appealing place to live, work and visit.
Applications are now open and will close on Friday 29 May 2026 at 12 noon. Businesses are encouraged to apply early to make the most of the opportunity and support the revitalisation of their local area.
