Belfast locals are being encouraged to take part in a "spring fling to mend a broken heart" by donating high-quality, pre-loved women's clothing to the British Heart Foundation (BHF). The call for donations comes as the charity celebrates its annual Reuse Revolution campaign, aimed at turning unwanted items into vital funds for medical research.

The BHF shop on Fountain Street is specifically seeking ladies' fashion and accessories, though it remains a hub for all quality second-hand goods.

Sonya Conlon, BHF Belfast store manager, said: "Spring is the season for a clear-out, so we're asking people to have a 'spring fling' – bag up what you no longer love or use and donate it to us.

"At the moment we are in particular need of ladies' clothes and accessories however we can also rehome all quality clothes, homeware, books and toys. Your donations help raise vital funds for the BHF's research. "We rely on the generosity of people in Belfast to keep the shop stocked. That vase you no longer use or that top you no longer wear, could help fund the next research breakthrough – and they could be exactly what someone else is looking for."

The impact of these donations is significant; heart and circulatory diseases claim a life every three minutes in the UK. The millions raised annually through BHF retail outlets directly support scientists working toward the next major breakthrough in cardiovascular treatment.

There are currently three simple methods for residents to support the campaign:

• In-store: Drop off items at 23 Fountain Street during standard opening hours.

• By Post: Use the BHF website to print a free postage label and send items via mail.

• Collection: Arrange a free pick-up service for larger quantities or bulkier donations.
