£390k Mountfield Road Improvement Scheme Announced

A £390,000 carriageway resurfacing project is scheduled to begin in Mountfield on Monday 18 May 2026, Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins has confirmed.

The infrastructure initiative will see 1.2 kilometres of road resurfaced across Spring Road, Barony Road, Lenagh Road and Main Street within the village.

Minister Kimmins stated: "This substantial investment of £390,000 for the village of Mountfield will deliver significant benefits for residents and road users. The investment demonstrates my commitment to investing in and improving our road network, which is vital for connecting our businesses and communities. I would like to thank residents, local businesses and commuters for their patience while this essential infrastructure work is carried out."

A series of lane and road closures will be put in place across the various stages of the project to ensure the works can be completed safely. The upgrade operations will take place between 8.00 am and 6.00 pm on weekdays. However, the ultimate resurfacing phase on Main Street is scheduled for overnight execution to reduce disruption for local schools, businesses and passing traffic. Officially signed diversion routes will be active throughout the duration of the road closures.

Although the Department has structured the traffic management and programming to keep disruption to a minimum and has made provisions for local access, drivers are warned to anticipate delays. Commuters are urged to factor extra travel time into their journeys through the area and to strictly adhere to all temporary traffic rules.

The project is on track for substantial completion by 6 July 2026, provided the area experiences cooperative weather conditions. The Department has committed to keeping the community updated should any scheduling changes occur.
