Education Minister Paul Givan celebrated a major milestone at the Strule Shared Education Campus (SSEC) to mark the completion of the main structural works on site.

The progress was commemorated with a 'topping out ceremony' attended by project partners, community stakeholders, and the principals of the six Strule schools. The development represents the most significant shared education initiative currently being delivered in Northern Ireland. Located on the former Lisanelly Army Barracks site in Omagh, the Strule campus will bring together six distinct schools. The site will feature state-of-the-art shared facilities designed to enhance sports, teaching, learning, and other educational activities, while simultaneously preserving the individual identity and ethos of each participating school. Once fully operational, the campus will foster collaboration, shared education, and reconciliation for approximately four thousand young people.

Construction at the Strule Shared Education Campus has progressed rapidly since physical work commenced on the site just over a year ago. The scheduled opening of the new campus remains on track for September 2028.

Speaking at the event, Education Minister Paul Givan said: "Today marks an important milestone for the Strule Shared Education Campus and is a clear demonstration of the progress being made on this flagship project.

"Strule represents a powerful commitment to shared education, bringing young people together in a modern, purpose-built environment that supports excellence in education through collaboration and cooperation.

"I am delighted with the pace of progress onsite and I look forward to seeing the campus move through the next stages of delivery as we work towards welcoming pupils and staff to Strule in 2028."
