£600,000 Road Resurfacing Scheme Gets Underway in Dromara
Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins has confirmed the commencement of a £600,000 carriageway resurfacing programme on the B7 Rathfriland Road in Dromara. The infrastructure scheme involves asphalt resurfacing across a 2.1-kilometre stretch, starting from the junctions with Ballymackilreiny Road and Closkelt Road and moving towards Dromara.
The Infrastructure Minister said:"This is a substantial investment for the Dromara area which will deliver significant benefits for local businesses, residents and road users. The investment demonstrates my commitment to improving our road network, which is vital for connecting our businesses and communities. This work will greatly improve the strength and surface quality of this section of the road network to the benefit of local residents, businesses and those travelling in the Dromara area. Work is expected to be substantially completed by Friday 12 June 2026. I would like to thank residents, local businesses and commuters for their patience while this essential infrastructure work is carried out." To ensure the safety of the workforce and public, a weekday road closure will be in place from Monday to Friday between 09:00 and 17:00 until Friday 12 June 2026. The road will remain fully open to traffic during evenings and throughout weekends.
A signed diversion route will be operational, directing traffic via the B7 Moneyslane Road, A50 Katesbridge Road, B25 Castlevennon Road, B25 Knockgrom Road, C328 Gall Bog Road, C328 Banbridge Road, C328 Dromore Street, and the B7 Rathfriland Road, with the reverse sequence applying for oncoming vehicles.
The Department has planned the operations and traffic management systems to minimise disruption. Local access will be maintained throughout the construction period, though road users are advised to expect delays, allocate additional travel time for journeys in the area, and adhere to all temporary traffic controls.
The works are expected to be substantially finished by 12 June 2026, subject to favourable weather conditions. The Department will issue further updates should any amendments to the schedule arise.
