Appeal for Information Following Viable Pipe Bomb in L'Derry

Detectives are appealing for information from the public following a report of a pipe bomb-type device discovered on a vehicle in the Nelson Drive area of the Waterside in Derry/Londonderry.

The incident occurred in the early hours of the morning, prompting a multi-agency response to secure the residential zone.

Detective Inspector Connolly said: "It was reported that a loud bang was heard in the housing area around 12.30am. It was discovered that a car window was broken and a pipe bomb-type device was found on the windscreen.

"Our officers and Ammunition Technical Officers (ATO) attended and cordons, which were in place for a number of hours overnight as we conducted enquiries, have been lifted. The object has now been declared as a viable device and has been taken away for further examination.

"An investigation is underway and we would ask anyone who noticed any suspicious activity in the area, particularly anyone who may have CCTV, doorbell or dash-cam footage which could assist, to contact us on 101, quoting reference number30 16/06/26."
