Belfast City Hall to Host Annual Day of Reflection
A Day of Reflection is set to take place at Belfast City Hall on Sunday 21 June, following a prior agreement by councillors to observe the event annually. The day offers an opportunity for individuals and communities throughout the city to acknowledge the profound hurt and pain resulting from the conflict in and about Northern Ireland.
The event is designed to provide a venue for quiet contemplation, featuring a dedicated programme of activity between 11am and 1pm. The schedule includes a screening of a short film produced by the local organisation Healing Through Remembering, alongside readings of prose and poetry. Attendees will also be invited to contribute to a 'Thought Tree' by sharing their personal hopes for the future.
In a joint statement, Party Group Leaders on Belfast City Council said: "As a Council, we will once again participate in this years' Day of Reflection and to offer a space in City Hall for this to take place.
"We acknowledge that many people throughout the city suffered deeply as a result of conflict.
"As Civic Leaders, we hope that by hosting this annual event and providing a quiet, safe space, it will give people an opportunity to reflect and remember in a way which is personal to them".
The Day of Reflection is open to everyone and no prior booking is required to attend. To further mark the occasion, Belfast City Hall will be illuminated in yellow on the evening of Sunday 21 June.

Marathon To Run On Bank Holiday
In spite of pressure from various sides, the 2011 Belfast City Marathon will not be held on a Sunday. It was agreed at a City Council meeting this week that it would continue on May Day, after over plans to move the race from its traditional May Day Bank Holiday to the prior Sunday were opposed.

The Chairman of Belfast City Council’s Good Relations Steering Panel has challenged claims that the Council is not supporting St Patrick’s Day in Belfast. It follows a protest outside Belfast City Hall last week by the St Patrick's Carnival Committee who claim the Council isn't funding this year's event at the City Hall.

Primark Donates £500,000 To Support Businesses Affected By Fire
Retailer Primark is donating £500,000 to Belfast City Council's City Recovery Investment Fund. The fund is being set up after a number of businesses have been severely affected by the fire at the Bank Buildings which happened over three weeks ago. A cordon remains in place and 14 firms have been closed for up to four months.
