Belsonic Organisers Back Share The Road To Zero Campaign

Belfast concert promoters behind Belsonic and Custom House Square's Summer Series have thrown their support behind the Department for Infrastructure's Share the Road to Zero initiative as large crowds head to the city for shows this summer.

The team has pledged to help amplify the road safety message, which urges all road users to put safety first when travelling to and from events.

With thousands expected to attend gigs over the coming months, Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins welcomed the move.

Minister Kimmins said: "It is great to see the organisers of these popular events getting on board and backing Share the Road to Zero.

"We know there will be thousands of music fans and families travelling from right across the North to attend one of the many concerts in Belfast this summer. That is a lot of people on the road travelling back and forth and it is vitally important that we all play our part to ensure that everyone arrives at their destination safely.

"One of the best ways to do this, and to fulfil our long-term goal of eliminating death and serious injury by 2050, is by changing road user behaviour.

"Sadly too many people are killed and seriously injured on our roads every year and more than 95% of road deaths are due to human error.

"We all have a personal responsibility to behave in a way that keeps ourselves and others safe and my Department's Share the Road to Zero campaign reminds us of that.

"We can all make a difference and help save lives by taking more care when using the roads."

After signing up to the campaign, Director Joe Dougan outlined why the promoters are keen to lend their support. He said: "Customer safety is of paramount importance at our events, and we're delighted to lend support to this proactive safeguarding campaign."

The Northern Ireland Football League, Ulster GAA, PSNI, Northern Ireland Ambulance Service, Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service, Sustrans NI and local councils have also endorsed the initiative.
