£4m Rural Business Development Grants Open For 2026/27 Applications
DAERA Minister Andrew Muir MLA has announced that a new £4 million Rural Business Development Grant Scheme (RBDGS) for 2026/2027 will open for applications on Monday 29 June 2026.
Eligible rural businesses can seek capital support covering 50% of costs, up to a maximum of £7,500, to purchase equipment that will enhance sustainability, competitiveness and innovation, expand services, and help access new markets.
The scheme is funded through DAERA's Tackling Rural Poverty and Social Isolation (TRPSI) Framework and will deliver capital grants to rural micro businesses across Northern Ireland. It will be delivered by local Councils on behalf of the Department.
Launching the scheme, Minister Muir said: "I am delighted to announce the opening of the Rural Business Development Grant Scheme. The scheme demonstrates my Department's commitment to supporting strong, sustainable and diverse rural communities, while also helping rural micro businesses to invest in their future.
"Rural businesses make an important contribution to local economies and communities. This funding will support the growth of eligible businesses and improve their sustainability credentials. I would encourage all eligible rural micro businesses to contact their local council for details of the scheme and support to make an application."
Applications close at 12pm (midday) on Thursday 30 July 2026.

The DUP has called for vigilance to tackle rural crime, following the release of the NFUs Rural Crime Report 2022. The report showed a fall of over 33% in the number of incidents over the last 12 months in Northern Ireland, but that the rural crime in Northern Ireland in 2021 was valued at £1.7m.

A budget of £623m has been allocated for the Department of Agriculture's Rural Development Programme 2014 - 2020, it has been announced. Rural Minister Michelle O’Neill has said the 2014-2020 RDP budget would be allocated across three specific areas: protecting the rural environment, developing rural economies and competitiveness of agriculture.
