L'Derry Security Alert Stands Down After Vehicle Search
A security operation in the Waterside Link area of L'Derry has concluded, the Police Service of Northern Ireland has confirmed. Officers, supported by Ammunition Technical Officers, examined a suspicious vehicle parked nearby and determined there was nothing untoward.
Roads that were closed on Monday evening, 1 July, have since reopened, as has the train station following earlier evacuations and cordons.
Inspector Keith Courtney said: "This alert began at around 4pm yesterday, 1st July. We immediately implemented a public safety operation, with the train station evacuated and a number cordons put in place and roads closed. "We know this caused significant disruption for the public, given the time of the day, and we thank all those impacted their patience and co-operation as we conducted our enquiries.
"As enquiries continue, we urge anyone who may have been in the area of Waterside Link yesterday, or in recent days, in the vicinity of the train station, and who saw anything unusual or suspicious to contact police."
Anyone with information is asked to call 101, quoting reference 1207 of 01/07/2026, or use the witness appeal form at reporting.psni.police.uk/appeals. Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online at crimestoppers-uk.org/.
