Sinn Féin Delegation Presses Parades Commission Ahead Of Newry Royal Black Parade
A Sinn Féin delegation comprising Liz Kimmins MLA, Dáire Hughes MP and Cllr Aidan Mathers has met the Parades Commission to relay residents' views in advance of forthcoming parades in Newry.
A large Royal Black Institution parade is scheduled to take place in Newry on 29 August.
Speaking after the meeting, Liz Kimmins MLA said: "We met the Parades Commission to present community concerns ahead of their determination on the upcoming Royal Black parade.
"We raised concerns in relation to access for residents, carers and emergency services to residential areas, the disruption in the city centre which will affect businesses, workers and shoppers, and the need for the organisers to ensure good behaviour and respect for the local community.
"It's essential that the Parades Commission takes community concerns into consideration ahead of its determination."
Dáire Hughes MP added: "Recent parades in Newry have caused disruption and frustration in the community. One significant issue has been the erection of flags, and other paraphernalia, that are left flying long after the parade has come and gone.
"We pressed the Parades Commission on this issue. It's vital that any flags put up for this parade are promptly taken down afterwards. The continued flying of flags, long after a parade has passed, frustrates and annoys the local community. This must be prevented moving forward."

SF to meet Parades Commission over Twelfth parades
A meeting is to take place between Sinn Fein and the Parades Commission over a number of controversial Orange Order parades that are to take place in north Belfast on July 12. A delegation from the party is to meet the commission on Thursday morning with regard to parades along the Springfield Road and Crumlin Road planned for Friday.

Members of the leading loyal order are said to be frustrated over an illegal march in Co Armagh yesterday and news of 'zero' prosecutions or cautions for those participating in any such illegal parades. The Orange Order described this as a "major shift" in policy, which they said, is causing huge frustration among law-abiding Orangemen.

Orange Tint To Parades Commission
A former senior Orangeman who disagreed with the loyal order's leadership has been appointed to the contentious Parades Commission in Northern Ireland. Reverend Brian Kennaway will be part of a new commission appointed by the Northern Ireland Office, which will begin operating early next month.
