Police Investigate Man's Death After Car Fire In Portadown
Police have launched an investigation into the circumstances of a man's death following a car fire in Portadown on Saturday night.
Chief Inspector Tierney said: "At approximately 10pm on Saturday evening, 8th August we received a report of a car on fire in the Harford Street area of the town.
"Officers attended alongside colleagues from the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service who extinguished the fire.
"Ammunition Technical Officers (ATO) were also tasked to the scene to conduct relevant enquiries – we can confirm there is no risk to the public.
"Significant damage was caused to the car, as well as a number of windows smashed and scorch damage observed to a neighbouring property in the area.
"Sadly, we can confirm the body of a man was located inside the vehicle. He was pronounced deceased at the scene – and a post-mortem examination will be carried out in due course to determine the cause of death.
"The circumstances surrounding what happened are still under investigation, and enquiries are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire.
"We would appeal to anyone who was in the area and witnessed what happened to make contact with us on 101, quoting reference number 1764 08/08/26."

An illuminated scroll is to be presented to Chief Fire Officer John McClelland on Tuesday, by assembly speaker Lord Alderdice in tribute to the sacrifice made by fire fighters over the years.

Minister Condemns Attacks On Fire Crews
Attacks on fire crews place their lives in danger and put communities at risk, said Public Safety Minister Michael McGimpsey today. Condemning a further spate of attacks on firefighters in Dungannon and Londonderry over the weekend, the Minister said it was absolutely unacceptable for anyone to assault emergency workers.

Man Dies In Co L'Derry House Fire
A man aged in his 50s has died in a house fire in Magherafelt, Co L'Derry An investigation has been launched into the cause of the fire at a house on Highfield Road, however police said that they don't believe the fire was suspicious. The man's identity has not yet been released.

Baby girl dies in road traffic accident
A child has been killed in a road traffic accident in Enniskillen. The baby girl, from the Republic of Ireland, was in a car with her two brothers, her childminder and her childminder's daughter, when it collided with a fire engine. The incident happened at around 11.20 am on the Derrylin Road in the town.
