Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins has visited the upgraded Traffic Information and Control Centre (TICC) in Belfast, following a refurbishment intended to improve collaboration during severe weather, emergencies and routine network management across Northern Ireland. The centre operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, enabling staff to oversee urban roads and the motorway network, provide timely updates to road users via the TrafficWatch website and social media, and respond quickly when incidents occur. The TICC team also manages the procurement, design, installation and maintenance of traffic signals and controlled pedestrian crossings.

Minister Kimmins said: "The Traffic Information and Control Centre is at the centre of our traffic management capability, and I want to pay tribute to the team who work around the clock to keep us all moving. This work often goes unseen, but they play a crucial role, particularly in times of emergency, severe weather response and when major events are being hosted here.

"The refurbishment of the centre makes it a more suitable and modern setting to accommodate 24-hour and collaborative work with the Police and other agencies during the increasingly frequent need for storm response or during special events."
