Man Arrested in Belfast Following Stalking Report
Police arrested a man in his 30s in the Wellington Place area of Belfast on Friday morning, 14th August 2026, following a report of stalking
Following the arrest, police reiterated that stalking is a pattern of unwanted, repeated behaviour that can leave victims feeling scared or distressed. Physical threats of violence are not required for an incident to constitute stalking; any persistent, unwanted contact causing distress is classified as such.
While individual stalking behaviours can sometimes appear minor in isolation, officers advise looking for patterns that fit the FOUR mnemonic:
• Fixated
• Obsessed
• Unwanted
• Repeated
If a pattern of behaviour meets these criteria, members of the public are advised to record the incidents, maintain a log of evidence, and report the matter to police before it escalates further.
Thousands of police officers and staff have received training to recognise and respond to stalking crimes, with the service committing to utilising all available tools to bring offenders to justice.

The Justice Minister, Naomi Long, has welcomed new figures demonstrating the success of enhanced stalking protections in Northern Ireland. An addendum to the first report on the Protection from Stalking Act (NI) 2022 shows that 90% of conviction cases for stalking and threatening or abusive behaviour were dealt with within a year.

Police Officers Disciplined For Failing To Tell Doctor About Woman's Head Injuries
Two police officers have been disciplined after they failed to let their colleagues and a police doctor know that a woman had sustained a head injury, a Police Ombudsman investigation has concluded. The woman died from bleeding to the brain on 24 February 2014, the day after she suffered the injury.
