Man Arrested After Spate Of North Belfast Burglaries
A 30-year-old man has been arrested after a series of overnight break-ins at homes in north Belfast.
Police said multiple properties were targeted in the Cavehill Road, Antrim Road and Oldpark areas between late Sunday night and early Monday morning, with cash and items taken.
One stolen car was recovered and another remains missing.
Chief Inspector Patrick Mullan said: "Sometime between 11pm on Sunday 23rd August and 6am on Monday 24th August, a number of burglaries at residential properties in the vicinity of Cavehill Road, Antrim Road and Oldpark occurred. As well as money and other items, one vehicle was stolen from a property at the Formby Park area and was subsequently recovered at the Jamaica Street area of the city. Another vehicle, which was taken from a property located at the Shangarry Park area, remains outstanding at this time. Police have arrested a 30 year male in connection with one of the incidents.
"Our enquiries are continuing to establish the circumstances surrounding these incidents and, we are investigating whether they may be linked.
"We are especially keen to hear from anyone who may have CCTV, dash-cam or other footage of these areas or noticed any suspicious vehicles or individuals.

Officers have also issued home security advice to help deter burglars:
- Lock your home – including all windows – when you go out, and try to make it look occupied.
- Check doors and windows for any weak points.
- Keep your front door and windows locked even when you are inside; thieves know some are left open.
- Keep valuables out of sight. Apply the same rule to your vehicle and avoid leaving anything on display.
- Store all keys out of view and away from doors and windows. To prevent keyless car theft, keep keys in a Faraday bag or box.
- Use a correctly installed, active burglar alarm. Consider fitting cameras or a video doorbell at entry points.
- Do not leave garden tools outside, as they can be used to break into homes or steal cars.
- Get to know your neighbours and look out for each other, especially if you are away for short periods.

Education Minister Paul Givan has congratulated students across Northern Ireland after this year's GCSE outcomes were released. In total, over 32,000 young people received results, with 83.6% achieving grade C/4 and above (compared with 83.5% in 2025) and 31.7% attaining grade A/7 and higher (31.6% in 2025).
