The Cool FM Breakfast team have swapped the studio for the saddle, embarking on an endurance challenge that will take them through France, across the English Channel and on through England and Scotland before sailing to Belfast and finishing in Banbridge.

Across six consecutive days they plan to cover over 800 miles and climb around 10,000 metres — the equivalent of more than 11.5 times the height of Slieve Donard.

The route begins in Paris, continues through France, crosses to England and heads north through Scotland to Stranraer, before a sailing to Belfast and a final push to Banbridge. Wednesday is tipped to be the toughest day, with up to 280 kilometres to be ridden in a single stage.

Every mile pedalled will help raise vital funds for Cash for Kids, supporting those affected by poverty, illness, disability and additional needs in Northern Ireland.

Speaking ahead of departure, Paulo Ross said: "This is without a doubt the biggest challenge we've ever taken on, even with months of intensive training and planning. The nerves are understandably kicking in for all of us – particularly me as it was my idea in the first place! "Knowing the difference these donations can make for local children will keep us going every step, or pedal, of the way. We're incredibly grateful for all the support we've received so far and to our amazing sponsor Omexom."

If they keep to their demanding timetable, the team hope to generate plenty of buzz on the run-in to the finish in Banbridge on Saturday 12 September. Cheer stations are planned for the last leg, culminating in a homecoming celebration and live broadcast at The Boulevard.
