Police Appeal After Life-Saving Throw Lines Taken And Damaged
Police said two throw lines were taken and damage to a further two was reported. The incidents are understood to have happened yesterday, 9 September.
Enquiries are under way to establish who was involved. Officers are appealing to anyone with information—particularly anyone who may have witnessed the incident—to contact police on 101, quoting reference number 1428 of 09/09/26.
Sergeant Lowry said: "A throw line could be the difference between life and death for someone, who may be in difficulty in the water. This equipment has a very clear purpose, and that's to help save lives. It's not a toy, something to be played with.
"For a person to fall into the water and not have access to life-saving equipment doesn't bear thinking about. We all have a part to play in keeping our waterways safe, and that means ensuring this equipment is there, ready to be used, the moment someone needs it.
"If you witness damage taking place, or become aware of anyone involved in this behaviour, please report it to police on 101 or online via www.psni.police.uk/makeareportAlways call 999 in an emergency."

At Laganside Crown Court, 47-year-old Nicola Beattie, from Craigavon, was sentenced to two years and two months for fraud by abuse of position. She will serve half the term in custody and the remainder on licence. The victim, who has since died, was a vulnerable adult living in sheltered accommodation and receiving home care.
