Housing Executive Grant Helps Social Supermarket Support More Families
The Scullery in Mount Vernon, North Belfast, has secured new funding to boost capacity and better serve local households facing food insecurity.
The social supermarket, run by Loughview Community Action Partnership (LCAP), is expanding to meet rising demand from the community.
The Scullery, operated by Loughview Community Action Partnership (LCAP), has received a Community Involvement Grant worth £3,182.00 from the Housing Executive to install additional shelving and improve its shop layout, creating more space for essential food and household items.
Demand for the service has continued to rise, with the supermarket exceeding its annual target each year.
Brian Dunn, who oversees the running of LCAP, said: "We provide a vital service for many people in North Belfast who are struggling with the ongoing cost of living crisis.
"As we are expected to reach 100 families this year the layout of the shop was no longer fit for purpose.
"New shelving units funded by the Housing Executive has allowed us to significantly increase the amount of stock we display to meet growing needs.
"These improvements have also transformed the space into a more traditional looking supermarket helping reduce any stigma our customers might feel in using our service.
"Thanks to the Housing Executive for the support in improving our social supermarket."
