Commissioner Hails Extra £750,000 For Victims And Survivors Groups
The Commissioner for Victims and Survivors, Joe McVey, has welcomed the decision to provide an additional £750,000 to groups supporting victims and survivors, noting that demand for help remains high and needs are continuing to change.
The Commissioner said: "I welcome the announcement of an additional £750,000 for victims and survivors groups and, importantly, the support this investment will provide to those who rely on the essential services delivered across the sector. We know that demand for these services remains high and that the needs of victims and survivors continue to evolve. "Earlier this year, I raised concerns about the significant funding pressures facing victims and survivors groups, including through evidence to the Committee for The Executive Office and in the media. Over the past six months, the Commission has continued to raise the need for additional investment with the First Minister and deputy First Minister and TEO officials, reflecting what we have heard directly from victims and survivors and the organisations supporting them.
"I am therefore pleased to see this additional funding being allocated to victims and survivors groups. It is a positive and important step which will help organisations continue to provide essential services and support to those who need them.
"While this investment is very welcome, we hope it marks the beginning of a longer-term approach to funding that considers the evidenced current and future needs of victims and survivors.
"The Commission will continue to advocate on their behalf to ensure their needs and experiences remain at the heart of future funding decisions."
