Detective Superintendent Chris Millar from Legacy Investigation Branch said: "We acknowledge today's sentencing. Kelly pleaded guilty to possessing two electronic detonators and two pressure mats with intent to endanger life on 16 February 1976 and possession of firearms and ammunition with intent to endanger life or to cause serious injury to property, contrary to section 14 of the Firearms Act (Northern Ireland) 1969, namely two Walther pistols and a Browning pistol also on 16 February 1976.

"While there are many challenges faced in conducting legacy investigations, today's conviction highlights that no matter how difficult such investigations can be this case proves that the criminal justice system can deliver a measure of justice no matter how long ago the crime took place."
